We have gone to the trouble and expense of obtaining independent Green Tick Certification to confirm that our business walks the talk when it comes to behaving in sustainable ways. This process challenges everyday decisions, like what cars we drive, what power company we use, how we heat the office, what paper we use and whether we use paper at all. This is an on-going process which requires commitment at every level of the organisation.
In addition to our own affairs, we put effort into providing our customers with information and design to improve the environmental performance of their projects. We think it vital to build homes that are energy-efficient, preferably energy zero or even positive. Investing in small, smart buildings that are multi-functional, warm, dry and comfortable seems logical to us.
Peter and Jon are accredited HomeStar Professionals who can guide the design process to produce a high HomeStar rating, which in turn certifies the level of investment for the Homeowner. A high HomeStar rating has been shown to produce a premium for rental or sale.
From our perspective, there are very few green buildings being built and this is mainly due to customers building homes that are overly large. This means that investment goes into space that could otherwise be used on smart technology such as PV cells, increased insulation and high quality window systems, all of which reduce running costs and environmental impacts further down the track. A reduction in size also means a reduction in all the associated costs for that space, especially maintenance.
If you have a project coming up, talk to Jon and Peter about how to make it smaller and smarter, and think about getting a Green Tick on your plans.
