Paraparaumu Airport has a development plan that includes upgrading the services to include Air New Zealand flights, a new terminal, extensive replanting, walkways, and a business park.
As part of this upgrade many of the existing commercial premises had to be removed for a new access road or because they did not meet the building design guide imposed by the owner for the development.
Our client was given the option to relocate their business to another area on the site. As they already owned their current workshop and sales office, they decided to move the main structure and engaged us to upgrade the visible aspects in order to meet the requirements of the design guide.
The existing small sales office that was partially attached to the work shop shed was not used.
Our response to the brief was to create a cantilevered facade that was anchored by expressed columns at two corners and on the front wall. A corner window treatment for the new office space added a crisp detail to offset the bulk of the new facade.
The build cost was a great result for the client as they gained a modern looking industrial building without the expense of a completely new structure. Groundwork is still to be completed which includes sealing the carpark and planting.
