This pavilion-style house was built for a young Wellington family who escape to the Kāpiti Coast during weekends. The 195sqm home also makes an eye-catching addition to its neighbourhood – vertical black and horizontal cedar cladding create contrast and impact on the site, which was tricky to build on. An interior black feature wall in the centre of the home creates a connection to the outside.
The kitchen is a modern design that mixes textures and colours – including black and white – with oak laser-edge cabinetry and Calacatta Supreme stone tops. An integrated fridge and hidden walk-in pantry complete the streamlined look. The bedrooms are separate from the open-plan living and entertaining spaces, making the house ideal for different bedtimes. No one wants a holiday home that requires lots of work, so this laid-back retreat is also low maintenance.
