Simple Bach Charm, with a Modern Beach House Appeal

The plan was to develop it further while not taking away from the simple charm of the bach by creating an environment of casual living surrounded by Pohutukawa trees and Macrocarpa hedges for those long hot kiwi summers. The central lawn was a huge priority for those impromptu games of cricket and being able to have family and friends stay for a few days by pitching a tent.

Modern Villa Design

The original property featured a dilapidated shed/garage which required removal. In its place, is a new multi-purpose rumpus room with a laundry and bathroom.

This new building needed to be able to be used not only for the table tennis/pool table, games etc. for teenagers and friends but also needed to be able to open right up to the lawn and outdoor socialising areas.

The configuration of the original bach floor plan was to remain as existing, except for the addition of a new ensuite and wardrobes to the master bedroom.

The Interior - A Holiday Home Design

The interior of the house was transformed by an interesting use of eclectic materials, finishes and furnishings to create a warm and inviting environment where the magic of countless Kiwi family holidays could continue with a new generation.

The black and white with plywood ceiling theme continues throughout the interiors even through to the cute sleepout that was constructed nestled between the Pohutukawa trees.

At the front of the site a new garage was constructed to house a family heirloom. A classic wooden speed boat, once owned by the client’s grandfather, was being painstakingly restored and brought back to life.
