Rimu Road Commercial Design
This building in Rimu Road, Paraparaumu with corporate architectural design received ‘Regional Highly Commended’ in the commercial category for the ADNZ Resene Architectural Design Awards.
With the Kāpiti Coast District Council’s plans to transform Paraparaumu into the heart of the district and the primary focus for retail, commercial, cultural, and civic activity, this site is situated on what will be effectively ‘Main Street’ in the future and was a perfect location for the development of a desirable, practical and contemporary styled office building.
A Building with Architectural Merit
The land on the northern boundary features an open stormwater culvert and a large open field. The road is on the eastern side therefore the northern and eastern aspects of the building are prominent and were required to have significant architectural merit.
Large windows bring plenty of natural light into the office environment, enabling the occupants to enjoy the outlook and Euroline cladding provides strong exterior façade features.

A Modern Environment
The organisation that was leasing the upper level is a computer-based company that employs mainly younger people therefore they required open plan work areas for hot desking, communication, and socialising. The environment had to be relaxing, vibrant, flexible, and totally up to the specification required for a state of the art, modern, computer-based office.
Access to and around the building was also very important to all prospective tenants and the owner as this would enable flexibility on many levels for now and the future.
“Before building my recent commercial property at 129 Rimu Road, I had never experienced a new build before, either commercially or residentially. I had heard many stories from others, so I knew the importance of getting things right, especially from the beginning. When looking for an architect I asked local people and the name AD Architecture kept being recommended to me.
The commercial property market can be very competitive so I needed a building that not only stood out from the ordinary, but would also be as future proof as possible, while meeting all safety and building standards, and within an acceptable budget. Jon Ambler and his team at AD Architecture met, and often surpassed these requirements. Jon and his team would often arrange meetings with the builder, tenants, and myself so that mutually we could find solutions so that we all achieved a successful outcome.
Now the building is complete, all the tenants, the builder and I are very proud of 129 Rimu Road and are grateful for the professionalism of Jon Ambler and the team of AD Architecture.”
