Our Designers are registered Homestar Practitioners and Assessors, qualified to provide advice when you are making decisions about home design and attributes that contribute to the comfort, health and performance of your home.

They can guide you on good environmental design to maximise the performance of your new home or renovation and help you get the appropriate Homestar rating. They know how to make a home warm and comfortable, provide a healthy living environment, use resources such as water and energy efficiently, and how to make a home cost you as little as possible to run.

Homestar is based on a 10 star rating system where 10 stars is the highest score. Even some simple retrofit activities like adding insulation, providing efficient heating and ridding the home of dampness can improve your score quite quickly. A new home designed to today’s standards should be able to score well above 5 stars. Older homes may find it more difficult to get a high star rating but by addressing the issues raised in the tool you will be well on your way to making the house rating as high as it can be.

Factors that affect the Homestar rating system include:

  • Site
  • Materials
  • Lighting
  • Heating
  • Water heating
  • Insulation
  • Moisture
  • Water
  • Waste
  • Safety and security
  • Planting and garden
